How Brewing Beer Began With Beer Making Supplies

By Debra Murray

Beer has been a staple drink for people for a very long time. It has been around for thousands of years and its known as the oldest fermented drink along with wine. Its considered as an every person drink because its the most common alcoholic that one can purchase and it does not get people drunk as fast as certain hard liquor does. This in turn makes it a casual drink among teenagers and adults alike.

Because of this, people have experimented and made their own kind of brew. With beer making supplies readily available in modern times, plus it is also very affordable to own, making a brew has become a popular hobby among older folk. The process of brewing is a quite interesting process as well and it taken years of development to create something good.

Beer has been around Europe when it was introduced by invading Germanic and Celtics tribes during the dark ages of history. These drinks that they made during that time was mostly done within a domestic setting. A thing to take note of though is the early from of beer is far different from what we have today and the taste is different as different ingredients and methods are used.

The items that were produced way before the industrial revolution was still on domestic aspect. Though during the 7th century did see monasteries produce and sell their own barely and ale. At the coming of the industrial revolution, the production moved from domestic areas to industrial manufactures, thus being made in factories, and this in turn ceased domestic products to lessen til the end of the 19th century.

The method and steps of making beer is called brewing. This style of making the drink has endured for millenniums on end due to how great the process of it was and how advanced people of for their time. The buildings were these are brewed is called a breweries and in the past was located in homes but were eventually moved to factories for faster mass production during the industrial revolution.

The main reason for brews is to turn starch into something called wort. The wort is the basis of making liquor. With the different methods to create a drink like beer, it will take a lot of time. The alcoholic drink is made by fermenting ingredients inside fermenters so that it will come out as the intended product like wine or beer.

A step requires the wort in its preparatory stage and mixes it into starch, or malted barley, with water that is hot. This is called mashing because of how each ingredient is mashed together. The hot water is then placed into crushed malt inside a device called the mash tun. The process of this would is an estimated one or two hours at most. During it, the starch is turned into sugar and filtered plus separated.

After the sweetened wort is now collected and placed in a kettle or sometimes known as copper and is boiled. This is done for about one hour. The water in wort will evaporate but sweets and other different ingredients will remain inside. This will allow more use starch sources that is found in beer. Boiling will also destroy remaining enzymes left over from mashing.

Fermentation is the final thing that is done. The wort is taken and would be placed inside the fermenting machine along with yeast in order to make liquor. After a few weeks and months of fermenting inside the machine, wort will become clear beer.
