By Henry Green

About half of the population of the world enjoys rice as a staple food. Most people love it since it is readily affordable, versatile, highly nutritious, and easy to store and cook. Cooking rice, however, is not very easy for most people. Many people need the help of the new Joyoung Rice Cooker to cook the perfect rice.

Rice is one of the healthy grains we have. It is low in fats and very rich in some of the complex carbohydrates. We have different types of rice such as dehydrated rice, parboiled or even frozen rice. One of the healthy rice types is brown rice which is also an excellent source of fiber.

The traditional rice cooking method is the most popular. Rice is measured and then added to another measured quantity of water. The mixture is put to a boil and then steamed.

The outcome of the rice may at times be undesirable. When the wrong amount of water is used and it becomes too much, the excess water is usually drained after the rice has cooked. This leaves the rice with a very poor texture.

Other times, the challenge comes in regulating the heat during the steaming stage. After the rice has boiled, steaming is done for a short period with very little heat. Some people are not able to gauge the right amount of heat to use and they end up with scorched rice at the bottom.

Asians are the best when it comes to cooking. When you visit an Asian restaurant, you are amazed by the delicious taste, fragrance and perfect texture of the rice served. Their real secret and sure proof way of cooking rice is the use of electric rice cookers.

The origin of rice cookers is in Japan. In this country, rice cooking is considered a serious art. Rice cookers started off to simply cook basic rice. There have been great advancements to include cookers that can cook different types of rice. Others can cook different foods and other grains.

Rice steamers are the best when making fluffy and perfectly textured rice. To achieve the best rice, it is important that one uses the cup that is offered as part of the cooker to measure the rice and water. The rice cookers cook the rice at a constant temperature until all the water is absorbed.

When the water starts boiling, a temperature of about 100 degrees is maintained by the cooker. The rice absorbs the water slowly as it cooks. Once it is ready, the cooker adjusts the temperature automatically and sets a keep warm function. This keeps the rice warm until it is ready to be served. When using the Joyoung cooker, you do not need to worry about the rice getting scorched.

According to the Japanese, rice is a complete meal. This is why the rice cookers have advanced to be able to cook other complete meals. They are very beneficial in cooking meals such as stews, meats, steamed vegetables, soups, desserts and even hot cereals.
