Did You Know The Ingredients Involved In Craft Brew Supplies

By Paul Adams

Most people are now coming back to the craft brew. This is because they are cheap, have good taste and chemicals free. They are made from natural ingredients which are discussed in details in this article. Craft brew supplies have tips that need to be followed to produce the best product.

The first ingredient in the list is yeast. Yeast is a type of fungi. It is needed for the production of alcohol and carbon dioxide through fermentation of simple sugars. The process of fermentation also produces substances which improve flavor and the aroma of this beer.

Yeats is available in two types namely larger and ale yeast. Ale yeast is very active in the fermentation process, and hence it is called top fermenting. On the other hand, larger yeast in which is less active in fermentation is called bottom fermenting. These two type of yeast work differently under different temperature conditions. Ale yeast ferments best at higher temperatures whereas larger yeast at much colder temperatures.

To create alcohol naturally, you need a source of sugar which will be acted upon by the yeast to produce alcohol. In beer, the sugar can be obtained from various grains. The primary grain is barley. But it can also be obtained from wheat. The general given to grains use in beer brewing is known as malt. The malt contains starch which needs to be broken down into simple sugars which can be easily digested by the yeast. The process by which this breakdown occurs is called malting.

The malting process is completed in two steps. Firstly, the grains are soaked in water for about two days so that they can germinate. The germination produces the required enzymes which facilitate the breaking down of this malt. The second step of malting entails drying the germinating grains. As soon as the grains start to germinate, they are taken into an oven where they are dried. The extent of drying, as well as the temperatures of the oven, dictates the color and the type of the beer brewed.

Beer is usually bitter. This bitterness is provided by hops. Hops are the flowerlike cones of the climbing vine. Inside them, are glands of oils and resins which not only add bitterness to the beer, also they improve the smell and flavor. The resins and the oils which are contained at the center of the hops are not soluble in water. Therefore to enable them to add their bitterness, they are boiled as a part of the brewing process.

The time taken to boil the hops dictates the level of degree of bitterness. The longer the boiling, the stronger the bitterness. There are several types of hops. And each type has specific characteristics. This, therefore, means that each variety adds something unique to the beer. It has been found that the variety of hop used in brewing influence the demand and thus the cost of this brew.

Water is the key ingredient as it provides the medium for mixing all the three named ingredients. The Brewers need to know the techniques in which water should be mixed to produce the best brew. In general, the water used must be safe for drinking and of good quality.
